Korean culture has become famous for its attention to skin care. With Korean women having skin care routines with up to 10 steps, it’s obvious that they take beauty very seriously. That being said, Korean beauty brands can feature some interesting packaging and ingredients. Just when we had gotten used to the idea of sea kelp, bee venom, pig collagen, and even snail slime in our products, the Korean beauty industry threw us a curveball: donkey milk. Yep, those sheet masks and creams you’re going to start to see everywhere are really made from milk from a real-life donkey.
Why would anyone choose to put milk from a donkey on their face? The skin benefits, of course. Donkey milk is so gentle that it’s been used as a substitute for breast milk for infants. According to the International Dairy Journal, it’s tolerated by 90 percent of infants with food allergies. That’s comforting in an ingredient you’re going to apply to your face. Donkey milk is hydrating and has four times the amount of vitamin C than cow’s milk. The many vitamins, proteins, minerals, and essential fatty acids make this ingredient a potent and effective one for your skin. It’s hydrating and brightening, and it’s believed to help with eczema, acne, and psoriasis. With all these benefits, why shouldn’t we be putting this all over our faces?
Cleopatra is known for her incredible beauty and is said to have taken milk baths. According to legend, it took at least 700 farmed donkeys for her daily milk baths. If it’s good enough for the Queen of the Nile, it’s good enough for us. Read on to find your own donkey milk beauty product.
Tom Ford beauty products are undeniably some of the most luxe in the market. Just look at them! The minimalist black, white, and gold art deco-inspired packaging begs to be left out on your vanity. Oh, that? It’s just my favorite Tom Ford lipstick! And the name alone gives it street cred, as Tom Ford is considered to be one of the most talented, celebrity-loved fashion designers alive right now. He knows how to make women look fabulous AF.
As a 31-year-old woman, Tom Ford beauty products have a permanent place in my stash. When I left my 20s, I tossed some of my Forever 21 college finds and replaced them with more sophisticated wardrobe staples. The same transformative process happened with my makeup, skin care, and fragrance picks. I want to wear a scent made for a grown woman, rock a pigmented lip color that makes me feel like a boss lady, and perfect my skin with luminizing products to deflect from any signs of aging. Tom Ford beauty does all of that. It’s elegant, style-forward, and just edgy enough to offer a cool-girl vibe.
So I encourage you to start saving – because, no, these are not the cheapest products out there. That said, I know once you try them you’ll never want to give them up! Keep reading to discover 12 of the top cult Tom Ford products worth investing in.
Dear French pharmacies,
If only you knew how much I miss you. You seem so close and yet are so far away. Rummaging through your old shelves for hours and finding new treasures was something that used to bring me joy, and leaving you for Boots is one of my biggest regrets . . .
OK, that might be a little dramatic, but I do miss French pharmacies. Luckily, the time when you had to beg your boyfriend to stop by one during your romantic weekend in Paris is now over – thank you, worldwide shipping! However, there’s a catch. Sticking a label to a product does not guarantee its quality, and I do believe that, even though some of those products have been described as essentials by websites and beauty bloggers, most of them actually don’t deserve that title. So as a French woman who has spent more hours than I care to admit in pharmacies, here are my six can’t-live-without-them French skin care products.
PS: Am I the only one who doesn’t understand why package tours to Parisian pharmacies still don’t exist?
We often hear that a flawless face of makeup starts with a great skin care routine. But if you struggle with hyperpigmenation, clear skin isn’t always that simple.
Like many women of color, I’ve long experienced the effects of scarring and hyperpigmentation following adolescent and hormonal acne. Though I was eventually able to tame my sporadic teenage breakouts, getting rid of its remnants has been a long, challenging process.
I’ve tried and invested in prestige full-cover foundations and concealers but over time I found that these were just temporary fixes that weren’t very cost effective. I’ve also spent my fair share of cash on luxury skin care goods that didn’t give me the instantaneous results I’d hoped for. But on my quest to clear skin I’ve found that not every magical product has to cost a fortune. In fact, I’ve come across a few drug store products that have actually worked wonders on my skin (without draining my pockets).
If you’re on a budget but want to commit to an effective skin care regimen, I’ve rounded up some of my drugstore favorites. These underrated gems won’t cost a ton in upkeep, so you’ll be able to consistently work towards radiant skin. Read on to check them out.
If you thought that color-correcting is just another makeup fad, think again. Beauty bloggers and professionals alike have been using multicolored concealers on dark circles and redness to create a clear complexion. One Reddit user proved the popular technique is equally as effective in covering up severe acne scars.
In a thread posted online, she shared the incredible before-and-after images of her face in three phases: without makeup, with foundation only, and with color-correcting concealers. With just the application of a few pigmented concealers, her acne scars were practically undetectable compared to using foundation alone. Scroll through to see her transformation and get inspired to try it out yourself!
“I have medium/deep skin that scars easily. Every blemish, knick, breakout leaves me a lovely parting gift- for months. This is actually the best my skin has ever looked, and I’m still kinda nervous.”
“As you can see, I have some full on purple pitted acne scars with marred skin on my jaw that is especially dark around my lips.”
Old Foundation Routine
“I did one side of my face the old way: foundation layer one, foundation layer two, spot conceal.”
New Foundation Routine With Color Correcting
“I prep my skin with Skindinavia Primer Spray ($35). I squeeze out a bit of L.A. Girl orange corrector ($5) on my hand mixing it with the L.A. Girl yellow corrector ($5) to make a shade that is close to my skin tone. The L.A. Girl orange corrector is POTENT. Applying it straight on changes my undertone and I felt like my face was a bit “two-toned” post foundation. Mixing it with a pure yellow (or concealer if you need it way lighter) allows it blend seamlessly.”
“I dot it [the concealer] right over the blemish/scar. I will put the pure yellow corrector directly on the most prominent part of my under eye circles and blend.”
“Set with Sacha Buttercup powder ($20), using a very light hand. I’ll fast forward past my brows/eyes.”
“I added two more dots near my chin. All the foundation I’m using!”
“Conceal and blend the under my eyes. Set with Banana shade in NYX contour palette ($25)”
Results of Old Routine
“Two layers of foundation, concealer, creme contour and highlight, and set with powder.”
