Huda Kattan, Beauty's Wealthiest Influencer, Spends 4 Hours a Day on Instagram

A post shared by Huda Kattan (@hudabeauty) on Feb 18, 2018 at 10:24am PST

Fishtail brows . Metallic lip strobes . The rose gold eye shadow palette that started ’em all (RIP, friend). It’s tough to name a beauty trend that’s come up in the past few years that hasn’t been shaped by Huda Kattan. Along with being the wealthiest influencer working the beauty game right now, Huda consistently drops both iridescent and utilitarian products that fly off shelves almost as quickly as she shot to the top of the industry.

Perhaps one of Huda’s most enduring qualities is that she totally smashes the “b*tchy businesswoman” stereotype. She’s a verified mogul, but she takes the time to support other women trying to do the same thing, whether they are superstars like Kim Kardashian and Jen Atkin or the women behind undiscovered makeup she promotes on her own feed.

“I always try to be as real as possible on social media and pride myself on only supporting people and brands I love and truly believe in,” Huda tells POPSUGAR. “It is super important to me that the videos we share are useful and offer something beneficial. I want people to learn something new.”

But finding those pre-viral trends before anyone else does takes a lot of tenacity. Huda cops to spending about four hours a day scrolling through Instagram’s Explore page. She admits that process can be a bit “overwhelming,” but there is a plus side: “It gives me the opportunity to connect with people from all over the globe. There’s never a time when we have nothing to share.”

“Whenever you are pushing boundaries, there will be push-back from people.”

And while Huda’s drawn attention to some wild makeup hacks in the past (hello, Vagisil primer ), her buck stops with reposting sheer clickbait. “We are very selective of what we share, especially when it comes to videos that have the potential to be harmful,” she says. Noting that many of her followers are on the young side, Huda feels she has a responsibility to be selective with her content.

For instance, when knife contouring (yup, that’s exactly what it sounds like) emerged a few years ago, Huda’s team made the decision not to call attention to such a dangerous trend. In Huda’s words, “We filter content and share only the beauty hacks and tutorials that will elevate a beauty routine.”

Routines aren’t the only thing Huda wants to elevate; she has also started the Huda Beauty Angels fund to assist budding female entrepreneurs. “We champion female empowerment and uniqueness, which doesn’t come without its challenges,” she admits. Her advice to anyone who wants to follow suit? “Whenever you are pushing boundaries, there will be push-back from people. Embrace what you stand for, and accept that there will be criticism.”

Oh, and one more thing: “The best advice came from my mom; she has always told me to be patient. It was really helpful to have her say that to me, because I am a really passionate person and can sometimes be very impulsive.” We guess the advice paid off – spending four hours a day digging through Instagram sounds like it requires quite a bit of persistence, indeed.

Get Hyped, Y'All: Storybook Cosmetics Is Finally Coming to Ulta!

Storybook Cosmetics, aka the source of our favorite fandom-themed beauty products, is officially coming to , and we’re practically bursting at the seams with excitement. The indie brand, which was founded by three identical triplets, has been a direct-to-consumer label since its inception. That means this is a pretty big f*cking deal for the women-owned company (and it’s also a big f*cking deal for our paychecks, which will now be spent entirely on ).

In case you’re not familiar with Storybook Cosmetics, it’s the source of those crazy-cool makeup products you’ve likely seen while scrolling away on Instagram, like the Harry Potter lipsticks that stole our hearts, that totally fetch Mean Girls palette , and the enchanted rose-inspired makeup brushes that practically broke the internet last year. Oh, and did we mention that all of its products are cruelty-free? Yep, Storybook Cosmetics is truly giving the people what they want.

Storybook Cosmetics hasn’t released any details about exactly when it will become available on , but we’ll update this post with more information as soon as it becomes available. In the meantime, may we suggest cracking open your piggy bank?

MAC Will Launch an Iridescent Glitter Pigment That's Fit For a Unicorn

London Fashion Week is in full force, and it’s delivering some noteworthy beauty moments – not to mention the DL on about-to-launch products. Backstage at the London College of Fashion show, a new iridescent glitter pigment from MAC Cosmetics was spotted at makeup artist Claire Mulleady’s table, and its existence is sending us into a unicorn-induced frenzy.

For the look, makeup artists combined the pearlescent glitter with gloss and liberally painted it on top of models’ eyelids with an eye shadow brush. Let’s just say these are the kinds of moments KiraKira+ developers thought about when creating their app. So sparkly, so pretty.

Iridescent White will be added to the brand’s existing lineup of glitter pigments in the coming months, and we’re guessing it’ll be about $22 like the other sparkling options .

Attention: Your New Favorite Highlighter Is Hiding at Walmart

I wrote an article last month about people who abuse their highlighter. As a professional makeup artist, I have seen many people overdo it with their “glow,” and many were irate that I called them out on it. Even though in that article I spoke with disdain about people that highlight too much, the fact remains that I am in love with highlighter when used properly. There is nothing greater than finding the perfect product that accentuates your bone structure and shaves years off of your beautiful face.

I recently was in a store consulting with a makeup artist at a very high-end luxury makeup counter. I noticed that her highlighter was absolutely amazing and noted sadly that I would love to splurge on the high-end $80 highlighter from her brand, but it seemed overpriced. She raised her eyebrows in surprise and leaned in to tell me a secret. “I am not wearing this brand’s highlighter . . . don’t tell anyone. It’s Wet n Wild .”

I took a step back and stared at her glistening cheekbones again, to be sure that my well-trained professional eye was in fact seeing things properly. Yes, her cheekbones and face was glistening with a creamy glow that was just the right tone, texture, and shine. Admittedly, I have enjoyed some NYX and Maybelline items as a professional makeup artist, but I have not purchased or used something from Wet n Wild since my teen years.

She went on to tell me that the Wet n Wild MegaGlo™ Highlight Powder ($5) is available in seven gorgeous shades, each for less than you might spend on your daily latte. I could buy all seven and would be spending less than I normally do on one luxury brand highlighter or highlighter palette! The peachy gold shade that she was wearing was called Precious Pearls and is especially ideal for someone with an olive complexion, like her . . . and me. I was on a mission.

I headed to my local drugstore the next day to pick up my $5 “gold” and found that the shade was sold out. The next drugstore didn’t carry the line at all. A Google search revealed that Target carried the product, but was sold out in Precious Pearls in every store in my area, and the closest store that had it was a cool two hours away. All of this information only made me want my Wet n Wild highlighter more than ever.

Lo and behold, an internet search revealed that a Walmart just one town over from me had what I was looking for. Even then, I had to search. I carefully went up and down the cosmetics aisles three times before I found the Precious Pearls nestled inconspicuously amidst the other drugstore brands.

I scooped up Crown of my Canopy , which I intend to wear when I have a tan, as it is a more golden, richer version of the Precious Pearls. I grabbed Botanic Dream for those fairer-skinned clients that enjoy a pinkish-glow to their highlighter. And a real find – for those of you who are about to spend on the latest and greatest lilac-toned highlighter – the Royal Calyx shade. This light, purple-blue toned highlighter will keep you on trend without breaking the bank.

I have been wearing this product every day since I found it. I have received endless compliments, and I have noticed that my selfies look better than ever. There is just something magical about this highlighter. Part of it might be the price, but anyone who knows anything about highlighter can recognize a good one when they see it. The other day at the end of a long photo shoot, feeling tired and weary, I sat down outside, and a friend snapped my picture. None of my exhaustion was evident; instead I looked simply glowing and happy to be alive. I attribute this to my favorite new highlighter.

These products are the just the right amount of shimmery delight (without hard chunky glitter), and each one of the seven shades available are flawless. The textures are just the right amount of creamy without being too dewy or wet and surprisingly for just under five bucks, the packaging is quite delightful and luxurious with floral patterns baked into the product.

The glow can be applied with a fan brush or packed on with cream cheek brush, and it will never make you look like a glazed doughnut (unless you want it to.) I find that using a fan brush is best, as it allows you to gently apply the glow and gives you the control you need to add more product, without getting too shiny. I even had a client last week who is known for “abusing her highlighter” and was doubtful about my new find. I packed on several layers with my fan brush, and she was pleasantly shocked at how beautifully the product sat on her skin.

I always say splurge or get your thrills from items like mascara or lipstick that won’t put you in the red. Highlighter is something that is hard to find, and often you will find that you are willing to fork over $40 to $60 when you find just the right one. This $5 find from the drugstore won’t destroy your beauty budget, and your cheekbones will be the envy of all!

Unicorns, Watch Your Back: Wet n Wild Is Launching a Goth-Themed Collection

In a beauty world that’s full of unicorns, sometimes you have to unleash your inner goth. Wet n Wild just made that mission a whole lot easier by dropping a line of 16 products that will give you major Hot Topic circa 2006 vibes – in the chicest way!

Starting Feb. 20, you can get your hands on the brand’s Goth-O-Graphic Collection, which will brighten up even the darkest of souls. Although these products are as anti-unicorn as you can get, the dark colors are still vibrant and perfect for Spring. Urban Decay Is Launching Dual-Ended Rainbow Mascaras That Look Damn Fine

Is multicolored mascara considered business casual? That’s something you might want to Google (@Linkedin, help a girl out!), because Urban Decay will launch a gaggle of vibrant, crayon-hued mascara that you’re going to want to wear every damn day. The brand just announced that it will drop five shades of the brand new Double Team Colored Mascara come March, and suddenly that month can’t come soon enough.

Urban Decay founder Wende Zomnir gave up the scoop in an Instagram post detailing the lash-enhancer’s multiple features . As she wrote, “One side [of the mascara] has a cream shade, and the other a coordinating shimmer shade. Dimensional!” Wende also wrote that she loves swiping it over her brows for a rainbow effect .

The electric hues are giving us major flashbacks to the 1980s. Gonzo is a midnight blue, Deep End is a mermaid’s tail sea green, and Junkshow is a pop of bright fuchsia. Of course, since purple is basically the team mascot for Urban Decay, that particular shade is represented in the plum-colored Vice. There is also a dual option, Dime/Goldmine, which holds a silver on one end and gold on the other. Read on to see each one in action!

1 Woman Used Petroleum Jelly as Mascara, but Here's Why a Derm Says You Shouldn't

Trying out a beauty DIY is risky business. I’ll admit that most of my trust issues stem from the fact that, regardless of what Pinterest “hacks” say, it’s actually a really f*cking bad idea to put toothpaste on your pimples. (Turns out, the teeth-whitening ingredients can actually really irritate your skin.) Similarly, in a video first spotted by Allure , a vlogger can be seen applying a homemade petroleum-jelly-based mix to her eyes as makeshift mascara. While her hustle is seriously impressive, we couldn’t help but become everyone’s mom and wonder: is it safe to put that ointment so close to your eyes?

We reached out to Rachel Nazarian, M.D., F.A.A.D. of NYC’s Schweiger Dermatology Group , to understand the safety – or lack thereof – of this viral lash-plumping procedure. First off, Dr. Nazarian has a few opinions on the ingredient itself, saying, “Petroleum jelly is a tried and true product to lock in moisture and to act as a skin barrier. It is generally great for sensitive skin.”

However, she wasn’t so jazzed about the idea of someone putting it so close to their eyelashes. Since petroleum jelly works well as a moisture barrier, “it may cause blocking of the delicate glands and pores around [the area].” According to Dr. Nazarian, clogging those spots can lead to inflammation “and potentially the development of styes.”

And although it’s common to see makeup artists using toothbrushes to unclump models’ mascara in a pinch backstage at photo shoots or runway shows, repeated use of that process isn’t ideal. “While most toothbrushes tend to be as stiff, or even less stiff, than most mascara brushes, there are many more bristles on a toothbrush than a mascara brush,” Dr. Nazarian said. She added that if you used this hack every day, “Over time, you’d notice less and less eyelashes from the trauma.”

The professional’s final recommendation? “Although it’s tempting to use this beauty hack to save time and money, you’re probably better off saving your lashes and buying traditional mascara.” And with an endless supply of stellar mascaras dropping every day , that’s hardly a chore!

NYX Is Giving Away Free Mascara – but There's a Catch

Be honest – when was the last time you switched out your mascara? If you’re a good noodle, it’s advised that you throw your old tubes away after three months . We know, we know, it’s hard saying goodbye. But luckily, NYX will make things a little easier for you. For one day only, you can trade in your old tube for a brand spankin’ new Worth the Hype Volumizing & Lengthening Mascara ($8).

On Saturday, Feb. 3, pop into your local NYX store bearing the lash-plumper you currently use. You’ll be able to switch that out for a Worth the Hype mascara, thus saving your wallet for the next three months.

But be sure to go early – only the first 100 customers who walk through the doors on Feb. 3 will be eligible for this offer. It’s first come, first served, so you’ll have to sacrifice hitting your snooze button for a free mascara. (For the record: most NYX stores open at 10 a.m., but be sure to check with your local one just in case.)

Here’s some incentive to wake up early. As you can see in the image ahead, Worth the Hype can amp up lashes to a natural but flush finish. There’s no clumping here, just opaque black coverage that makes the model’s eyes look gorgeously huge.

In short: get thee to an NYX!

The Kat Von D Divine Palette Is Half Neon and 100% Fabulous

If Kat Von D’s Valentine’s Day Launch is any indication, Feb. 14 is going to be electric, funky, and fabulous. The brand just released more intel on its Divine Palette, which prominently features a bright green theme that is bound to make you smile.

This eight-pan palette is inspired by the legendary drag queen Divine, who is perhaps best known for playing Tracy Turnblad’s mother in the OG 1988 film version of Hairspray. Kat wrote on Instagram that the late performer is one of her “biggest muses.” The packaging prominently features Divine’s (perfectly winged) eyes, out-to-there false lashes, and famous arched brows.

Of course, it’s the palette’s interior that has us the most excited. Standout shades include Pink Flamingos, the aforementioned electric green; Baltimore, a shimmering midnight blue; and Hairspray, a metallic silver.

Also included in the launch is a neutral rose Studded Kiss Lipstick housed in neon lime packaging to match Pink Flamingos. Kat Von D fanatics probably know that the brand just released a new Studded Kiss formula , so the Divine Collection might be your first chance to try that out.

While we don’t know anything about pricing yet, we do know that the marketing for this campaign is going to be super rad. That’s because the brand posted an Instagram Story showing Kat Von D transforming into the spitting image of the drag queen for a photo shoot. It all looks so incredibly – wait for it – divine!

This Adorable Heart-Shaped Lipstick Sold Out in 1 Day – but It's Baaack

Even if you plan to spend Valentine’s Day eating a sampler box of Russell Stover chocolates in bed while watching the courtroom scene of Legally Blonde on repeat, you can still celebrate love’s eternal flame with a beauty product or two. On that front, our hearts currently beat for The Beauty Spy Mystic Love Lipsticks ($18).

The heart-shaped bullets are absolutely adorable, and you don’t have to take it from us. Instead, consider the fact that these babies sold out in one day. It’s not hard to see why. Even the biggest Valentine’s Day hater will succumb to the charming heart-shaped surprise hidden underneath the lipstick’s cap.

These beeswax-infused lippies provide intense, creamy coverage. There are four varying shades of pinks and reds, and one hydrating shimmer stick that can be applied alone for a subtle sheen or on top of color for when life calls for some tszujing.

After wearing the classic red option through an entire day, the coverage remained perfectly opaque. And unlike some intense red lipsticks, there was minimal color transfer. This means that if you’re planning to do some heavy petting on Valentine’s Day, consider Mystic Love Heart Lipstick kiss-proof.

See every lovable shade, ahead.

If You Love Rose Gold, You're About to Lose Your Sh*t Over These 7 Highlighters

This time two years ago, we thought that rose gold was simply a trend. Now, the beautiful blush-metallic shade has proved itself to be a long-lasting hue that’s here to stay. It’s hugely popular for jewelry, fashion, tech products, and – most recently – beauty. It’s warmer than a classic yellow gold and, quite frankly, more universally flattering. We love it on eyes and lips, but it truly shines as a highlighter. Big-time cosmetic brands have made their own highlighters in the popular color, and we rounded up our favorites for you. Not only will these choices help you to get your glow on, but they will also add warmth to your face. Shop these irresistible options.

Meet CoverGirl Peacock Flare! The Newest Mascara In the Drugstore Family

According to Emmy-winning, celebrity makeup artist Andrew Sotomayor, there is nothing more disgusting than when your open beauty product slips out of your hands and falls onto the floor, exposing it to bacteria! CoverGirl is making sure this doesn’t happen with your mascara thanks to its brilliant new iteration. So, we proudly introduce: Peacock Flare Mascara ($8).

Let’s start with the packaging. In addition to the mirrored turquoise, peacock-inspired color and pattern, the cap features a rubber grip. It also has a curved shape for your fingers to grab onto, ensuring that bathroom crime scene is avoided. When I tested it, I definitely was able to pinch the cap more than a traditional round tub.

Onto the brush! The feather fan brush features alternating shorter bristles that spiral around. This is meant to help curl the lashes as you apply. The end result is a lush, flared-out look – hence the name, peacock. I found the curling feature to be effective, and I only needed a few coats to get some drama since the brush is pretty long. It was able to grab everything from my inner corners to edges at once.

The formula is also unique with a wax blend meant to add volume and resist smudging. It has lash-nourishing ingredients, including sea buckthorn extract, vitamins, and minerals. This gives it a creamy feel when applied, and I didn’t feel the need to use my usual lash primer.

And because CoverGirl just thought of everything this time, the brand is offering Peacock Flare Mascara in eight shades! Lookout for five levels of black: Extreme Black, Intense Black, Jet Black, Black, and Black Brown. There are also waterproof versions in Extreme Black, Black, and Black Brown.

If you need one more reason to #WANT this mascara, know that Ayesha Curry was just announced as the face of CoverGirl , and her first campaign is for Peacock Flare.

The mascara launches in November at drugstores and online, but you can see a first look here!

Forget Plain Highlighter – People Are Now Putting Actual Pearls on Their Faces

Forget using highlighter and strobe creams to give your skin a pearlescent glow. Now, makeup fans are taking the look one step further and incorporating real pearls into their makeup looks. The results, as you may expect, are pretty striking. Tiny seed pearls and small beads have been added to eyes, lips, and even the entire face to enhance each makeup look. The results are something both Coco Chanel and the Little Mermaid would be envious of!

If you want to opt for something a little more angelic than gory for Halloween this year, use eyelash glue to add the tiny accessories to your makeup look. After all, as one makeup artist noted, in the words of Jackie Kennedy, “Pearls are always appropriate.”
